VBAC Class

Are you planning for a VBAC and want to know if it is for you?

do you want to learn more about VBAC and prepare yourself for it?

are you struggling to decide if VBAC is for you and want your questions answered by someone who have even personally had a VBAC?

Are you trying to find VBAC reources ?

Hi! My name is Tigist. I am a mom of two (one born via cesarean and second one born with a VBAC), a midwife, a doula and childbirth educator. I decided to design this VBAC class because I wanted parents to have access to a comprehensive information rather than going here and there. With lots of information found out there, it is sometimes hard to pick what is right or evidence based and what is not.

According to CDC, the rate of cesarean decreased by 71% from 1996 to 2007, (17% to 32.7%). According to American Pregnancy Association more than 90% of moms with previous cesarean birth are candidates for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and 60-80%, about 3 to 4 out of 5 women have a successful VBAC. The success rate of a VBAC is high when it is planned, parents know what they are going for and are prepared and interventions are kept to a minimum.

Some of the topics covered in this class:

  • Historical background and why VBAC became not an option for parents

  • How to choose and find a VBAC supportive provider

  • How to choose the birth setting

  • Rights in childbirth

  • Common reasons for a cesarean and what you can do different now

  • Comfort measures in labor and more

Helpful Tips for a Successful VBAC

Take a Childbirth Class

The other most important part of preparing for a childbirth is learning about the process of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. In taking a childbirth class, you learn about the physiology that is happening in your body, you learn about coping during labor and you also learn about all the interventions in pregnancy and birth including postpartum preparation.

As an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, I teach Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class. With this online class, you will learn everything you need to know about your upcoming birth.

Learn more about a VBAC

One of the most important things you can do for yourself when you plan to have a VBAC is to learn everything about a VBAC. When you have an evidence based information about your birth, your rights in childbirth and the facts you need to make your decision for your upcoming birth, you will have that peace of mind knowing you are prepared.

As many evidences show, the success rate of having a VBAC is so much higher when parents are prepared and have planned for it. Many times, scare tactics are used or women are not told about this option at all. As you may have already heard and are thinking about it at the top of your head, risk of uterine rupture is one of the feared complication. Even though it is a rare situation, it is important to know how to avoid the risk and what you can do.

Hire a Doula

A birth doula is a companion who provides people with continuous support during labor and birth. Birth doulas provide physical and emotional support during pregnancy and birth. Evidences show that, when you hire a doula your chance of having a cesarean decreases by 39%, chance of dissatisfaction after birth decreases by 31% and your chance of having spontaneous vaginal birth increases by 15%.

DoulaMatch, Sista Midwife and DONA International has lists of doulas that you can choose from. If you want to talk to me about my doula services, feel free to contact me!

“I do not care what kind of birth you have…a homebirth, a scheduled caesarean, epidural hospital birth, or if you birth alone in the woods next to baby deer.
I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices, and that you were respected.”
